Easter is just a few days away and I know I for one haven’t gotten our family outfits together yet. I’m usually a little late getting my act together in the clothes department for holidays, I focus on getting the Easter baskets, or presents or whatever and then the week of the holiday I’m like “oh I guess we’ll all go naked, lol”. I’ll be out this weekend with all the other last minute parents looking for cute springy dresses, oh well. So here are some last minute Easter outfits if you’re looking for ideas.White/Gold Dress, Blue Dress, Striped Dress, Macaroon Necklace, Nene Shoes, Flower Headband
Maybe you’ve already got the Easter clothes hanging in the closet, I applaud you!
I hope your week is going swimmingly, our has been pretty laid back, which is lovely. My aunts from out of town were next door at my grandmothers for a few days, so we enjoyed morning coffee together and the girls spent the afternoons reading to everyone. It’s great to see family that you only get to see a few times a year. It snowed while they were here so they went out with Elly and Jordyn to have a snowball right and build snowmen. After it stopped snowing the sun came out and it turned into a beautiful day. So when Jud got home we loaded up the girls and went for a wintery walk down the walking trail. It was a little brisk but so refreshing to be out. Harper loved it, I’m excited about her this year, I think she’s really going to enjoy being in the jogger while we run. Wednesday kicks off the busy part of our week with Elly’s swimming after dinner, which she is loving by the way. She’s already come a ways from where she started, she can go under without plugging her nose and is getting way more confident in the water. I’m so glad we did swim for her, this summer is going to be so much fun for her and it will set my mind (somewhat) at ease when we’re at the beach or pool.
Have a great rest of the week friends, talk to you soon
Today I come to you a tad on the, tired mom of three sick kids, side of life. Friday I took Harper to the Dr and we left with meds for a double ear infection and conjunctivitis in both eyes. Then Sunday we ended up at the quick care with Jordyn and left with the same exact diagnosis that Harper had gotten two days earlier. I was happy yesterday that Elly seemed to be fine, I thought she might escape the fate of her younger two sisters. But…this morning at 4:30 I heard my bedroom door open, little footsteps and Elly’s voice “mom I have gooey boogers all in my eye”. I know they say good hand washing is key to keeping pink eye from spreading but I think that all the hand washing in the world wouldn’t keep this sucker from spreading. I couldn’t fall back to sleep after we washed Elly’s eyes out (even though I wanted to so bad), plus Harper decided 5 AM was a good time to wake up and fuss about life. It was definitely one of those mornings I rolled my eyes and actually said out loud to myself “I’m gunna need a lot of coffee today”. Insert YAY coffee cup here….
A little side note, you can get these disposable cups at Target, I love them!
There was one good thing about today though, when the girls went downstairs they had a surprise waiting for them. Jud and I stayed in the basement until about 9 last night finishing the shingling on the dollhouse (a very tedious task). I mentioned earlier that Elly accidentally knocked if my a table and broke it, so we took the opportunity to give it a brand-new look. We painted it a deep red, re-shingled it, added a balcony, re-carpeted and re-wallpapered. Honestly, it was a lot of fun. For the carpets I used felt pieces from Jo Ann Fabric and the wallpaper is just scrapbooking paper you can buy at any craft store. I found this spray adhesive and it worked perfect for the felt and paper. Our plan is to add a porch swing out front, side rails to the top balcony and twinkle string lights wrapped all around the posts and rails. Thankfully we had this distraction for a rainy, sick day at home. The girls have been rearranging and reorganizing furniture and dolls all day. I hope you’re all having a good week so far. Here’s to hoping my munchkins feel better soon!
Happy Monday once again. I hope your weekend was everything you dreamed. If you’re like me and have kids then you probably didn’t get to sleep in (like me). I try not to get my hopes up about sleeping in on the weekends, I tell myself that if I don’t hear the girls until 6:45 I’ll be happy. Then if they sleep past 7 I feel like I’ve gotten a huge treat! This past weekend we didn’t have any big plans and it was so nice. We did a few errands and worked on restoring the girls doll house. Boy has that turned out to be a WAY bigger project then originally planned. We took it in the basement to repaint, fix the roof and make the floors a little more sturdy, then Elly bumped into it and knocked it on the floor, smashing it into pieces, whoops. So now it’s a complete dollhouse overhaul and I can’t wait to show you guys the finished product!
We also may have stopped by one of our favorite ice cream stands on Sunday. It’s been so warm this winter that I was thinking all the ice cream shops should open up early this year, then I look at Facebook and see that Red’s in South Portland is open. So of course we had to go! It was delish and the girls were super excited to be eating ice cream again. We’ve been pretty busy over here at the Blake house these past couple weeks. We had planned to sign both the girls up for swimming lessons this spring but by the time I went to sign them up the preschool class for Jordyn was full so we only ended up being able to get Elly in. As you can probably imagine Jorns was quite upset so we looked around and found a dance studio 10 minutes from our house. I wanted to put her in their dance/acrobatic class (where they incorporate some gymnastics) but unfortunately they didn’t have enough kids signed up for that class. We ended up switching her to tap/jazz, which is so cute! I’m so excited to be getting the girls involved in activities. I said it when Elly started soccer, there’s nothing like seeing your child succeed outside the home. We do so much for them in our house, try to teach them what’s right, how to act and be polite. Then to see them out there in the world thriving and being an inspiration to others is more then I could ask for.
So here’s what our weekly schedule looks like this spring.
Mondays are free, Tuesday I have my workout class at 6:30, Wednesday Jordyn and Harper spend the day with their great grandparents and then Elly has swim at 6, Thursday Jordyn has preschool at 10:30 then dance at 4:15 and I have my workout class again at 6:30, Fridays are mostly free, I have a cleaning job that I do every other Friday. Jud is also a full time student, he’s taking classes through SNHU, he’s been doing school at night and on the weekends.
A few other random things for this post….we’re gearing up for another trip to New York City with our brood. It’s been almost a year since we’ve been and we can’t wait for our visit in April.
I’ve recently had the best pizza of my life at Jimmy the Greeks near the mall. I’m not a huge pizza person because it’s always so greasy and heavy and leaves me feeling sick to my stomach. But this mediterranean pizza was amazing, not heavy or greasy at all, I will definitely be getting again! Elly is learning how to braid. I couldn’t believe it when she brought me her american girl doll the other morning! The girls and I have a new favorite bedtime book. We have it borrowed from the library right now but I think it might be one we end up buying. It’s a funny, cute little story about a girl who gets a camera phone and is obsessed with taking selfies, lol. I couldn’t help but think of the hundreds of photos on my phone of the girls double chins. They love “trying” to take pictures of themselves, so this book was perfect for them. I hope you are having a great Monday! I’ll leave you with this picture of Harper and Jordyn walking hand in hand to the car the other day. Melts my heart!
It’s the last day in February and to celebrate another winter month down I’m giving you a recipe! It’s a good one too. I love to find healthy alternatives to some of our families favorite recipes. Not everything I try to make comes out yummy, so I was pretty excited when these cookies came out so delicious. They tasted the best when they were warm right out of the oven, but then again what cookie doesn’t taste best right out of the oven. So here’s the recipe
OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
1 Cup Oats (I used gluten free)
1/2 Cup Almond Meal (you can find it at Walmart with the flour)
1/4 Tsp Cinnamon
Pinch of Sea Salt
1/2 Cup chocolate Chips
2 Tbs Melted Butter
1/4 Cup Maple Syrup
1/4 Cup Peanut Butter
1/2 Tsp Vanilla
Pre-heat the oven to 350 and spray a cookie sheet with non stick spray.
In a bowl, combine oats, almond meal, cinnamon, sea salt and chocolate chips. Mix well.
In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, maple syrup, peanut butter and vanilla until well combined. Then add the wet mixture to the dry and stir well.
Make cookie shapes on your cookie sheet, you can use a melon ball scooper to make it simple. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Then enjoy!
I love how simple this recipe is, it took me no time at all to whip them up. There are only a few ingredients and most of them are already in my pantry. I will definitely be making these again. Try them out and see for yourself.
It’s Monday and we’re back into our normal routine of school. Having Elly home with us all last week was a blast. Don’t get me wrong there were times I was at my whits end with all the girls but I tried to fill our week up with lots of fun things so that I didn’t get to frustrated with them. Elly and Jordyn are at the age where tattling is the funnest thing, I can only handle so many “she looked at my wrong” or “she is on my side of the couch” before I say “everyone just stop moving, looking, talking, breathing….” you get the point, right?
So here are some things we did and places we went.
We met some friends at The Yard. Which is an indoor playground place, they have tons of fun things for kids to climb on, swing from and run around. I also took the girls to Smudge Art Studio to get their creativity flowing. This was our first time there and it was so great. They had all kinds of stations set up with play dough, spray painting, regular painting, making magnets and coloring. There were only two other kids there besides the girls so it was somewhat peaceful. I was happy because they could make a huge mess and I didn’t have to clean up any of it, it was perfect! We also spent time visiting we with some besties. The girls love holding baby Kenzie, if she’ll let them, lol. My friend has 4 littles, so add my three and you’ve got some screaming chaos, but they have so much fun together. We also finally got Harper a new carseat this past week. The one she’s been in is from Elly as a baby and it’s been well used, and smelled like it had been thrown up in about a hundred times (it had been). I’ve been wanting to for quite some time but they are so expensive I’ve had a hard time pulling the trigger. Babies R Us is having their Trade In Event right now though, so I lugged our old car seat into the store with all three girls in tow, got the coupon, and picked out the new car seat. We decided to go with the Graco Nautilus 80 Elite 3 in 1 Harness Booster, it’s a mouthful I know. This thing is going to be the last carseat we’ll have to purchase for her though, it switches into a booster with a back and then the back will come off when she’s big enough to just have the bottom booster. I was quite happy with my decision, I took it out of the box in the store and brought it out to the car. Figuring out how to put it in the car was pretty easy, although you wouldn’t think so if you had watched me trying to keep Harper from climbing out of the van and keep the older two from getting in my way. As you can tell Harper was pretty excited about it. We spent the weekend mostly sick, Jud on Friday, me on Sunday and now Jordyn is throwing up. Yep, I thought we were going to skip it this year but it somehow weaseled it’s way into our house and I’m not happy about it. What are the chances Elly and Harper won’t get it?? I sure hope not because Wednesday Elly has her first swim practice and Thursday Jordyn has her first dance class. We’ll see how the rest of this week goes I guess. Hope you all had a great Monday!
