Memorial Day Weekend

May 27, 2015

It’s been a little while since I’ve gotten a blog post up. With the long weekend it was so nice to just have family time! We kept ourselves quite busy with this beautiful summer weather. Speaking of summer, can we just take a sec and check out this float. It’s amazing, I would love to have something like this for my parents camp this summer.61fk6WB2lRL._SL1133_ Inflatable Party Float

Anyway back to our long weekend. Saturday was pretty chill, my inlaws took the girls for a few hours while Jud and I had a date. I know some people may not feel this way but when we don’t have our kids for a few hours we immediately think to get our grocery shopping done. Usually we all go to the grocery store to do our big shopping on Saturday and although my kids are pretty well behaved, they are still kids, and kids can only shop for so long before there’s a melt down. So it was amazing to shop with just me and my hubby, I actually got everything on my list and didn’t have to turn around halfway through the store because I was distracted and forgot something!20150523_132307 We grabbed dinner at Whole Foods and very sadly I dropped my avocado rolls down by the door in the car. I was so upset!20150522_185811 We ended up going to get ice cream to make me feel better and it worked.

We spent a lot of the weekend going for walks/runs, hanging at the playground and taking the girls training wheels off their bikes (more to come on that). We mowed the lawn, planted flowers and sprayed wasp spray outside the house. Yes, those little suckers are going to be the death of me, they always somehow find their way inside my house and scare the crap out of me and the girls! So let’s hope the spray keeps them away!20150523_15494720150526_125759

We hung out at our friends house after church, the kids played in the yard while we sat and enjoyed the weather. We ended the day making our first s’mores of the season!! Then on Memorial Day we had a BBQ and hung out with more friends. Great food, good company and fun outdoor activities, what more could you ask for really? It was the perfect way to spent the holiday.

I have to mention that this weekend I finally found a pair of aviator sunglasses that fit me! I have been on the hunt for a long time but every pair I’ve tried on has been way to big for my face frame. Well leave it to Target to have just the right size for me!! I love them so much and they were only $20, yay! I recommend these to anyone with a small face looking for the prefect pair of sunglasses. 17136991

I also stumbled upon this pretty sweet tote bag, I can see myself loading this up with beach stuff this summer! 16878333

After this weekend being in the 80’s and the ac cranked I think we could say that summer is truly here, even though it’s not official until mid June, which I always find weird. Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend and remembered those who have fought for this country.

Welcome to New York

May 20, 2015

So basically the whole time we were in New York I had the Taylor Swift song stuck in my head, “Welcome to New York, it’s been waiting for you”. Lame I know but it happened, ok?

This was a much needed mini vacation. We haven’t been away from home together for quite a while now. With my husband working so much it’s been hard to get away. But alas we finally fit it in and I’m so glad we did. Last time we visited the big apple we had all three girls but Harper was only 3 months old so it was pretty easy to just put her in the carrier and walk around all day, she basically slept the whole time. This time I was interested to see how it would be walking 10+ miles a day, taking the subway multiple times a day, and feeding three hungry kids. No matter what came our way on this trip I had the mindset that we were ready!20150515_135814 We left on Elly’s birthday, she went to school and Jud picked her up halfway through the day with a big birthday balloon. We decided to stop on our way at a Chuck-E-Cheese about an hour and a half from our house. It was basically empty since it was in the middle of the day so the girls had free reign over all the games. They had a blast!20150515_153841 We arrived at my sister in laws house late Friday night, so pretty much went to bed when we got there. Saturday morning we started the day with our favorite bagels down the street then hung out at the house and let the kids play with their cousin Blake.20150516_093045Jud and I wore our fitbits to track our walking over the weekend, it was so cool to see how many steps and how far we walked. Unfortunately the numbers were a little off because when we were pushing the strollers our wrists didn’t move as much. But even with the numbers not being correct we put in over 20,000 steps (which is about 10 miles) each day! Our first stop when we went into the city was the American Girl Store, Elly had some birthday money burning a hole in her pocket to spend there! After that we walked through Rockefeller Center and then spent some time in Central Park.

IMG_20150516_13492220150516_14310220150516_143238 Harper was pretty good on the subway, for the most part she hung out in the carrier or the stroller. We kept shoveling puffs in her mouth to keep her from screaming, not because she was upset, she just screams when she’s bored. We had a 40 minute subway ride and when the puffs failed I let her get out and sit since it wasn’t packed with people.IMG_20150516_170900 Sunday Jud played on the band at his sister church, which meant that he had to leave early Sunday to practice and I would have to meet them at church when it started. After getting myself and the girls ready I loaded Harper into the carrier, Jordyn into the stroller, had Elly by the hand and we headed out for our walk through Queens to find the church. It was a little nerve racking walking somewhere alone that I had never been with three kids, but it ended up being fun. We stopped for a bagel and the lady behind the counter said “I don’t know how you’re doing that” haha. New Yorkers are not used to seeing a family with 3 kids! We spent the rest of Sunday on the Upper West side (which is like where they film the movies), we walked in and out of the park and then found a festival that we walked through for blocks and blocks!2015-05-17 13.26.4320150517_15383820150517_154054 Monday we did more walking. We took the subway into the One Trade Center area. Our plan was to go inside and walk around, apparently on the ground floor it’s almost like a museum of 9/11. But we didn’t quite make it there, we got side tracked at Chelsea Market and by the time we were done there it was time to meet up with Danielle and Blake at one of our favorite restaurants in NY called Peanut Butter Company. I got a Peanut Butter BLT, sounds gross but I promise you, these guys know what they’re doing, it was delicious!20150518_131812 We hung out with my sister in law and her family the rest of the time. We ordered food in and just visited. The weekend really seemed to fly, probably because we were jam, packed busy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We survived the craziness with three kids and had a blast. Although I told Jud on the way home that our next trip to New York would be kidless.

Beauty Favorites

May 13, 2015

I love looking at other blogs or searching pinterest to see what other peoples favorite beauty products are. I love reading reviews and finding out what products are worth the money and which ones to totally skip all together. I have a combination of cheaper drugstore makeup and a few high end items, I thought I would share. I’ve been learning a lot about makeup and skin care over the past couple years. I never really took care of my skin as a teen and even into my early twenties. So just in the last couple years I’ve been doing a lot of research on the best ways to keep your skin healthy and looking beautiful. Untitled The first one on the list is the Benefit Stay Flawless Primer. I put this primer on before my foundation and it seriously keeps my makeup in place all day long! I was amazed the first time I wore it, I went to take my makeup off that night and it was all still there on my face. So many foundations wear off through the day, even high end, pricy foundation. So when I found this little number I was super excited and felt like I found a little treasure.

The Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush is a cheap blush you can get at any drug store. I like all the shades they have but my favorite and the one I use almost daily is Rose Petal.

Next is the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, I LOVE this foundation! This is a full coverage foundation for sure, if you have something on your face you want to cover up this stuff will do the trick! I don’t wear this on a daily basis because it’s on the higher end in the price department. If I’m not just staying home, running errands or working out, this is the makeup I go to.

I recently tried Lo’real False Fiber Mascara and I have been very happy with the results. Mascara is one of those things that you just have to try out a bunch and pick which one works best for you. I got this one in a brown/black and it seems to match my light features perfect. It seems to be making my lashes look fuller and it doesn’t clump like some other mascaras I have tried.

I’ve learned that one of the best things you can do for your skin is moisturize. I take my showers at night and when I dry my face off it always feels super dry. So I have been applying this Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel cream every night and it makes my face feel so hydrated. Hydration both on your face, and by drinking water also helps keep wrinkles at bay, which is something I like about this cream too.

The Aveda Volumizing Tonic is something I’ve been using for a few years now. I got it at my salon. I apply it to my roots when my hair is wet then blow-dry with a round brush. I have such flat, thin hair when I straighten it, but this tonic really helps give that lift at the roots. It’s not super pricy and the little bottle lasts me almost a year!

Last but not least is the Jergens Natural Glow lotion. I used this everyday through the winter and it really works. It’s not a fake tanner, it really does give you a natural looking tan/glow over a period of about a week. The color slowly builds over time and it keeps you from looking winter, pasty white. It doesn’t have a gross smell either, which is great.

So there you have it a few of my top beauty products. I’m always open to new things and having fun with trying out different brands. Hope you’re all having a great week. We’re starting to plan and pack for our road trip in New York this weekend!

Our Weekend

May 11, 2015

It’s Monday once again, although today is a special Monday. Today is my hubby’s birthday! Unfortunately he has to work all day with just a short dinner break. So we made homemade pizzas and had ice cream cones on the porch while he was home.

We celebrated Jud, Elly and Harpers birthdays at my dad’s on Friday since we’ll be away in NY this coming weekend. Harper got her very first taste of cake, she was obsessed. If I wasn’t shoveling the next bite in her mouth she was screeching at me.20150508_18271120150508_182116

On Mothers Day I went downstairs to some homemade waffles (which I totally forgot to snap a pic of) with flowers, a balloon and presents. The girls were so excited to have made a special breakfast for me. I sat down in the living room to eat breakfast and open my gifts and Jordyn kept saying “Mom you’ve never done this have you?” haha. I’ll admit it was so nice to be pampered and have someone else making the breakfast and cleaning up!

I couldn’t help but remember last mothers day when I was stuck inside the hospital on constant monitoring to make sure my little Harper was safe for the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy. It was a hard day to be in the hospital but my family all came to visit me and they really made the day special for me.

This year we hosted a BBQ for my mom and all my siblings. We ate some yummy food, headed over to Fort Williams to play in the 80 degree weather and then ended the day with ice cream. It was a great day to just relax and catch up with family.20150510_16433520150510_161733 I hope you all had a wonderful Mothers Day weekend. Here’s to another week!

Sweet Summertime

May 7, 2015

Even though it’s not quite summertime it sure feels like it this week! We’ve hit 80 a few days with nothing but sun. It has been such a shock for all us Mainers to go from 50’s one week then bam we’re in the 70’s and 80’s. Most of the time (November-April) I think to myself “why do I live in Maine?”. But then May comes around and it reminds me why I live here, I love summers in Maine, just taking it easy and soaking up the rays! That’s pretty much what we’ve been up to this week. We’ve already got grass stains on new pants, chalk people all over the driveway, mud pies and lots of dandelion bouquets.

This past Saturday we started our day off by going out to our new favorite breakfast spot. It’s just a small little place in town Portland. It’s close to the farmers market which will be nice in a few weeks when we start going.20150502_09155720150502_091954IMG_20150502_093823 The rest of the weekend was spent hitting up some yard sales, doing yard work and going for runs/walks/bike rides.

We’ve been able to walk to bring Elly to school and in the morning and then to pick her up in the afternoon. It’s such a great way to start the day, it’s a nice leisurely walk through the neighborhood. There aren’t many cars on the back roads so the girls can run or ride their bikes without me freaking out if they get to far.IMG_20150505_09011020150507_082601 Harper loves riding in the ergo backpack, Most of the time we’re walking she’s jumping up and down on my back.20150507_085010 Speaking of Harper, she’s becoming quite the little handful. She loves to explore and get into everything. I’m constantly behind her picking up her messes, from one room to the next. This morning she discovered that she could get into the cupboard where the coffee is, she was pretty proud of herself and proceeded to carrying the coffee around the house. She’s giving me a run for my money!20150507_070509 Well that’s a little update of our week. I hope everyone is enjoying some beautiful weather where ever you live! Happy almost summer!!
