Winter Break

February 23, 2015

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to sit and get a blog post up. This past week was Elly’s school vacation. We’ve already had cabin fever for the past month so the last thing I wanted was all of us sitting at home going crazy all week. I planned things everyday which worked out great. The days were busy and by the time they got into bed at night they were exhausted, perfect plan. We started off the week at a friends house having some valentine’s festivities, the girls made their own mini pizzas and did a craft.20150216_164348 I took the older two girls to see Paddington at the movie theater, which they enjoyed. On a side note, I can’t believe how expensive it is to go see a movie these days! It cost $6 for each of the girls and $8 for my ticket, and this was a matinee. I remember when it was like $2.50 for a matinee, does that make me sound old? Of course I also paid the $6 for a small popcorn, and I may have snuck some skittles in my purse, hey it’s a movie tradition.20150219_13572820150219_135848 After the movie I was on the phone with my mother in law and put my key in to start my car and it wouldn’t start. We’ve been having a ton of problems with our 2004 Santa Fe, it was just in the shop over the past weekend and I had just picked it up the day before. So obviously when it wouldn’t work I lost it a little. Luckily my mother in law was close by and came to our rescue. I’m starting to think we will be shopping for a new family car at some point in the near future.

The rest of the week consisted of some visits with more friends and a trip to the mall to walk of some winter energy. It was a fun week but I’m glad to get back into the routine today. There’s just something to be said about the daily grind, sometimes you just need the schedule to feel like things are normal again.20150217_122152

This little one has been busy learning all kinds of new tricks. She’s pulling herself up on everything, she’s still a little wobbley though so she keeps falling right on her head, it’s pretty pathetic. She’s waving “hi” and “bye”, eating more people food and she even started making a kissing noise when you blow a kiss at her! It’s the sweetest thing, my mommy heart can’t even take it. She’s also entered a screeching phase, Lord help me. I almost abandoned my cart at Target the other day because I could not get her to stop. She wasn’t crying she was just making the highest pitch screech you’ve ever heard over and over. I’m praying this phase ends quickly to save my sanity! Last night I brought something into the kitchen and when I came back into the living room this is how I found my child.20150222_173642 Just chillin on the breakfast tray with some chapstick. I guess we’re also entering the climbing stage.

Over the weekend Elly and Jordyn had a sleepover at my in laws, so Jud and I got a little time on Saturday to chill with just one baby. There’s a little breakfast cafe in Portland that I love but it’s small and wouldn’t be as enjoyable to bring all the kids to. So we took advantage of only having one child, got up nice and early and headed over to the cafe. There was only one other couple there so it really was a peaceful, relaxing breakfast.20150221_074348 Well that’s a glimpse of our winter break and weekend. Hope you all enjoyed you week. We’re heading into the last week of February, yay, spring is just around the corner!

Feeling Lovy Dovy

February 9, 2015

So it’s Valentine’s week and we’re getting in the spirit over here at the Blake house. We started off the weekend with salads, snacks and dessert at our friends house. I’m not sure if it was meant to be a festive valentines dessert or not but it seemed to fit perfectly into Valentines week!20150206_192504 These little homemade donuts hit the spot, thanks to my chef friend and her husband, whom we are thoroughly trying to convince to open there own restaurant.

With another snow storm hitting us right now we’ve had more then enough time to think about crafts and fun little treats to put together for Elly’s class bags for school. We had some down time on Sunday afternoon since Jud wasn’t feeling well we decided to just hang around the house. Which left me trying to come up with something to occupy the girls. We came up with cutting out paper hearts and writing each others names on them and decorating them. Simple yes, but the girls had fun making them and they look cute hanging on the French doors in the living room.20150208_161317 I found these Strawberry Chocolate Chip cookies on pinterest and I can’t wait to make them!Strawberry-Chocolate-Chip-Cookies Click HERE for the recipe. I’m also going to make these chocolate dipped pretzels with the girls and we’ll put them in the goody bags for her classmates. Valentine’s day falls on a Saturday this year which is pretty cool. Jud signed himself and the girls up for a father daughter dance but unfortunately it was full. He’s second on the list if anyone cancels so we’re hoping there’s still a chance they can go. We’re going to do a special family dinner and dessert, I haven’t figured out exactly what I’m going to make for the meal yet but I think I have the dessert covered. This yummy oreo cream pie, I’m super excited about it.

Here’s Harper in her little Valentine outfit.IMG_20150209_115918 Headband found HERE. I hope you all are having a great week so far. Stay warm!

Winter Wonderland

February 5, 2015

Happy Thursday! Boy it’s been a pretty snowy and cold week here in Maine. We’ve had so much snow I feel like we’re digging the cars out and shoveling the driveway everyday. We’ve been spending so much time inside we’re all going a little nutty. I just need it to warm up a little so we can send the kids outside to play and get some energy out. We had a couple days last week where it wasn’t in the teens so the girls got to play in the snow while Jud cleaned up the driveway.20150128_094520 Thankfully Harper is pretty content crawling around the house, which makes being stuck at home much more enjoyable. She has perfected her army crawl and it’s so funny to watch her because she can go super fast. The difficult part is making sure she’s not finding little things on the floor and putting them into her mouth. I swear no matter how many times a day I sweep Harper always finds something that she’s not supposed to have and I grab it right before she puts it in her mouth. Causing a mini mommy heart attack every time.20150128_093211 She’s even starting to pull herself up and standing for a few seconds holding onto the step. 20150129_175425
We took full advantage of the sun over the weekend. We got up and out of the house Saturday morning and did a major grocery shopping stock up. We hit up 3 different store and actually ended up getting everything on my list, which usually doesn’t end up happening. Of course we started our trip with the our favorite coffee, can you tell which ones mine and which ones Juds?20150131_15334020150131_131821Sunday after church we visited my childhood best friend who just had her first baby. It’s always fun to hold a teeny tiny newborn. We ended the weekend with the Patriots winning the Superbowl!!

For now I guess we’ll just keep catching snowflakes on our tongues and dream of warm sunny days!20150130_182134
