Jump and Rake

October 28, 2014

There’s nothing like a nice refreshing three day weekend. It’s always nice to have a weekday off to get stuff done that you can’t do on the weekend. Our Friday consisted of going to the DMV, registering cars and getting oil changes, not that fun. But it does feel good to have all the little tedious things checked off your list! Once all that was out of the way we took the girls to Get Air and I’m pretty sure every other parent in the greater Portland area had the same idea. It was packed, but luckily they have a great system in place for keeping things orderly and under control. The girls loved it, I was wondering if they were going to be scared or timid with other kids jumping all around but they definitely were NOT.

20141024_15493020141024_160736 They have a neat little foam pit too, kids can throw themselves into it from the sides. Jordyn only got stuck once. I have a feeling we’ll be visiting again this winter when we get sick of being stuck inside for months on end!20141024_155346

Saturday was the picture perfect fall day in vacationland. We made plans with friends Patrick and Janeen to spend the day at their house helping install wood floors in their bedroom. Mostly Jud and Patrick did the installing, Janeen and I watched over our little brood of 6 kids under 6. We painted pumpkins which was a big hit, and of course Jordyn had paint all over her dress under her make shift, plastic bag, smock within 2 minutes. But hey what are you gunna do?

20141025_10255920141025_103425 We enjoyed much of the day outside chatting while we put the kids to work doing some raking, as you can imagine not much actual raking got done. But they had fun trying.20141025_100251

Sunday we did a little more winterizing of the house and just let the girls hang out and play. I started a little project I’m still working on for the girls room that I can’t wait to share.

We’re entering Halloween week and that means scrambling to finish up the girls costumes and plans for where we’re going trick or treating. I know what I want Harper to be but she’s going to be a bundled up so I’m trying to figure out how to make it so that you can see her costume. It’s tricky in the cold weather. Well I will leave you with these pictures of the girls to make you smile today.

Nor’easter Week

October 23, 2014

Well if there’s one thing I know about living in Maine it’s that the weather does what the weather wants! Last week was hot and muggy and this week has been wind and rain for 4 days. There’s a chill in the air as if it might even snow sometime soon. We Mainers like to say we can smell snow, laugh if you want but it’s true and we’re usually right! It’s been kind of a dreary week but we’re making the best of it with lots of snuggling, movie watching, game playing and nail painting.

20141020_154842 And getting donuts.20141014_153211 Since we didn’t have many big plans this week I thought it would be the perfect time to get Harper to start eating some baby cereal. At her last appointment my doctor told me to start trying it since she really isn’t a fan of drinking her bottle. I’m not sure why she doesn’t want her bottle maybe she just wants to be a big girl like her sisters. At first she didn’t quite get it, she acted as though I was trying to poison her but now she’s a pro! She loves sitting up in her highchair and eating from a spoon. Of course the girls love watching her and can’t wait until they get a turn to feed her.

IMG_20141014_175821 We’re starting to get into weekend mode a little early this week because Elly has no school tomorrow and Jud took the day off. We’re going to do some not so fun errands but we have a friend coming to watch Harper for a little while in the afternoon so that we can take the older two to the new trampoline park! It’s called Get Air Portland and HERE is the link. It looks like tons of fun!

I wanted to share a little something that I’m loving this week. I went to a friends house a couple weeks ago and she introduced me to this Chai Tea mix. You can drink it hot or iced and it’s so delicious! I personally like it over ice, half cup of mix and half cup of milk and ta-da a yummy afternoon pick me up. And you can get it right at Target, who doesn’t want to take a trip there?

20140906_074941 Jud and I are headed to our first parent teacher conference with Elly’s teacher tonight. We can’t wait to see what she’s been doing all these days she’s been off in the big world. Hope everyone is having a cozy stormy week at home.

It’s Getting Chilly

October 20, 2014

Another weekend has come and gone. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend which is something we haven’t had in a while. We had some plans for Saturday but ended up cancelling them because we had so much “around the house” stuff to get done. The temps are now starting to hang out in the 50’s so that means it’s time to winterize the house.  We worked outside and the girls played with the neighbor kids that live next door. The girls love going over to play with their chickens, and they even brought us some fresh eggs! We only have a few more Saturdays to play outside before it’s freezing, so the kids are enjoying it while they can.20141014_114404IMG_20141014_115735

I have been thinking of redoing my old hope chest that I’ve had since I was 16, I haven’t done anything with it because I wasn’t exactly sure what to do or where I would put it. But I was inspired this past week and finally figured out the perfect remodel for it. I was so happy with how it turned out! My husband sanded it down for me with his sander, then I put 4 coats of white paint to make sure it was covered nicely. I also put a coat of polyurethane on the top to give it a little extra durability since I have three kids. I went to Home Depot to find some knobs and then stepped back and was very satisfied with how it turned out! 20141020_094808

Sunday after church Jud went to play football and the girls and I were lazy. We watched movies, painted our nails and did some online window shopping.IMG_20141019_181632

Christmas time is coming, did I just say that? Anyway I did some browsing and found some great stuff to add to our lists.

We ended our weekend last night perfectly with some homemade apple crisp and vanilla ice cream, yum! Well I hope you all are enjoying the lovely fall chill. We certainly are!

Free Plane Tickets!

October 14, 2014

So I started off the weekend with a phone call from a time share agency saying that I won 4 roundtrip plane tickets! I filled out one of those papers at the Cumberland Fair a few weeks ago and I guess they picked my name. Yay! There are 31 destinations you can go to, including Paris, London, Rome, the Caribbean and a bunch of places in California. I am so excited, I’ve never won anything in my life (actually when I was 10 I won a CD player at Happy Wheels) but other then that, nothing! Of course they want you to buy one of their time shares so you have to go listen to the sales guy to actually get your free tickets, so we booked an appointment for Saturday afternoon. We had to take a little road trip to Rockland, ME where the resort is located. Jud’s parents watched Elly and Jordyn so we only had to bring baby girl to make the 2 hour drive. It was a beautiful day and a chance for Jud and I to have a little quite time to chat about life.

It’s starting to get a little chilly around here so obviously that means it’s time to accessorize with hats, mittens and scarves! 20141010_165015

I have been eyeing a few things for the girls this fall. This beanie hat for Elly found HERE, another one is this hat for either Elly or Jordyn found HERE. I love everything purple for Harper so when I came across THIS I fell in love with it. While looking for the girlies I found a little something for myself that would look quite nice atop my head, check it out HERE.

On Sunday we went to church and then headed up to my dad’s house for some apple picking and donut eating! I’m not sure why all the apple picking places around here make homemade donuts, is it just a Maine thing or do other apple orchards in other states do the same thing? Either way we aren’t complaining!

20141012_143706bright We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful fall day! We grabbed some pumpkins for our front step while we were there. The girls had a blast.20141012_144426

We are now in the midst of everyone battling colds and Harper teething. It’s making for a fussy week and I’m not just talking about the baby! I’m making everyone drink OJ and take their vitamins but it’s just going to have to run it’s course while we lay around and wait to feel better. Maybe this will help us? It’s worth a try anyway 🙂20141013_121848

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and are enjoying the cool weather. I have to add this one last picture of Elly doing a stellar job photo bombing like a pro!20141012_144745

New York Trip Part 2

October 8, 2014

On Friday afternoon after eating lunch in Central Park we made our way back toward the Upper West Side, where there happens to be a Ritas (great ice cream shop). We passed a Starbucks on our way and the girls had to use the bathroom, well since most places in NY want you to be a customer to use their restroom, we also grabbed some coffee. I’m not sure what it is but there’s something about the coffee in New York, it’s much smoother, creamier and just delicious. I like Starbucks around here but I don’t get it very often and I have to admit, sometimes my coffee comes out tasting not so great. But the baristas in NY know how to do it, if I could afford it I would always have a Starbucks in my hand when I’m in the city!

20141003_141849 We jumped on the subway and wondered over to Times Square. We always take the girls and my nephew Blake to M&M world, it’s fun and they get to pick out their own color of M&M’s. My sister in law headed back to Queens to start dinner and we stayed in the city for a bit to do some more exploring. We walked up by Rockefeller Center and then to the American Girl store. This place is legit, it’s three floors of everything from the dolls to a café, basically a dream for any little girl.

20141003_155535 We found this one that looks like Jordyns twin. She has assured me that she will get it for Christmas.20141003_160227

Now I would love to say that we easily hopped on the subway and headed back to Danielle’s, but unfortunately that would be a lie. We ended up walking around Central Park for a while and then when we decided it was time to go we could not, for the life of us find a subway with the F train. Doesn’t sound to bad but when you have three kids that are tired and hungry, everything seems to be amplified by about 1,000 times. We walked from block to block and even lugged the stroller down into a few subway stations to check the maps. After about an hour we called Danielle and she lead us in the right direction. We were so happy to be in the right spot! Harper was ready to be home.

20141003_144730 Saturday Jud ran in a 5k down the road from Danielle’s and despite the pouring rain he came in 5th place overall. The original plan was for all of us to go and the girls were going to do the kids fun run after the big race. But when we woke up to the weather not looking so great we decided Jud would just go by himself, which was a bummer, but hey, crap happens! When Jud got home and warmed up we drove to a mall in New Jersey and down the road was an Ikea, yay! Boy does time get away from you in there, you go in in the middle of the day and come out when it’s dark outside!
After Harper went to bed we left her with my sister in law and took the older two down the street to Barnes and Noble. They just love sprawling on the floor and looking at books.

IMG_20141004_200807 Sunday was our travel home day. We were all pretty tired from all the fun we had, so we packed up the car then took a short walk downtown to get breakfast. There is a waffle truck always parked on the same street every Sunday morning that has the most amazing belgian waffles you’ve ever tasted. They had a new menu item this time it was the s’mores waffle, so we splurged and tried it! It was worth it.20141005_104339

We got our last Starbucks for the trip home and then hit the road.20141005_113806

The trip home always seems twice as long, but we were also traveling in the middle of the day which might have made it seem longer. We had to stop a few more times then usual, but all in all it was a good trip back. I have to admit these three were troopers!20141005_124730

It was a nice long weekend, we had so much fun and had a great time visiting with our family. We’re now settling back down and into our normal routines. Hope you all have a great rest of the week!
